Moving from Miami to Boston is about 1,450 to 1,500 miles up I-95 and around 22 to 24 hours of actual driving. The drive is the simple part. Boston is one of the few cities in the country where you must formally reserve the curb before a moving truck can legally use it, where a single weekend in September absorbs most of the city’s moving capacity, and where the wrong road into town can destroy a truck. We have been running this corridor since 2007. Request a free quote to get started.

Boston Makes You Reserve the Curb

This is the detail that matters most on this route. Moving truck permits come from the Office of the Parking Clerk at Boston City Hall, and without one there is no legal space for the truck.
A one-day permit covering two non-metered spaces costs $69 and includes two signs, with metered spaces adding $40. Applied for online, your move date has to be at least 15 days out and no more than eight weeks away. In person the minimum drops to three days and you can reserve up to five consecutive days. The standard permit covers 7am to 5pm.
Posting the signs is the resident’s job and the timing is strict. Signs must go up at least 48 hours before the 7am start, and the city recommends three days. Fliers have to go on cars within a half block every day for at least two days beforehand, or one day for metered spaces. If a car is sitting in your reserved space on the morning, Boston Police will arrange a tow once you give them the plate. Permit fees change, so confirm the current figure when you book.

Low Bridges That Destroy Moving Trucks

Storrow Drive, Soldiers Field Road and Memorial Drive are cars only, and their overpass clearances run as low as nine feet. Box trucks that follow consumer navigation onto them get sheared open, which happens often enough that the state runs an annual campaign against it and the city has a name for it.
The official truck detours are Beacon Street, Commonwealth Avenue and the Mass Pike. Every bridge east of the Eliot Bridge is open to trucks, including the BU, Harvard, Longfellow, Western Avenue, River Street and Anderson bridges. The state’s own warning is that consumer GPS does not account for truck height, which is why a loaded truck coming into Boston has to run truck-specific routing rather than whatever a phone suggests.

What a Miami to Boston Move Costs

This route is quoted from the shipment itself, the weight, the mileage and what the two addresses demand, rather than from a rate card. Boston adds its own variables on top. Stair carries apply by flight and triple-deckers generate them by definition. Long carries apply when the permitted space is not directly outside the door. A shuttle applies when a full-size truck cannot work a street in the older neighborhoods. The city permit fee itself is separate from the move and paid to Boston. Describe the address properly at the estimate stage and all of it lands in the written figure instead of on move day. Massachusetts Deadlines After You Arrive

Massachusetts gives no grace period on the driver license or the registration. The state tells new residents to convert as soon as they become residents and publishes no day count for either, which is different from most states and different from what a lot of moving advice online will tell you.
The one hard deadline is the inspection. Massachusetts requires a safety inspection within seven days of the registration date, so that one goes in the calendar the moment the registration is done.
